Holiday Challenge?

Yes, it's been forever, but I'm totally capitalizing on the season to ask if anyone wants to do an essay exchange that centers around holidays? How they're celebrated at Hogwarts, which students do what, a specific holiday, whatever you want. Nothing due 'til mid January at the earliest. So how about it?

Just comment with a prompt or the essay that you want to do if you want to join in. I figure asking for another post is just a bad idea. Also, comment if you're still owed an essay/still owe an essay.

Walburga Black

"For a split second, Harry thought he was looking through a window, a window behind which an old woman in a black cap was screaming" (77) This is a woman trapped by her beliefs, hurt by them, and not able to do anything but rage. This is Walburga Black, of the "Most Ancient House of Black".

New Challenge

Two great ideas in the last post, so using one this go around, the other the next go around.

I like the idea about all of us writing about one character in whatever style we choose (essays, poetry, fic etc). But please nothing on Snape, Dumbledore, Riddle, Harry or the well-known characters. Lets get a bit obscure.

Do you want to do this as a prompt, or your choice of character? And due date is very, very, flexible.

New Challenge

So, what do you want to do next? Poems about an object or character? Essays about rubber bands in HP? Fragments, songs, fics, and everything but essays about any ole' hp non fic topic? Yeah I need to rename the community, but $20 is a bit steep.

So, people who actually turned in their essays get first say, and everyone who hasn't participated gets second say. The rest, uh, their ideas will be taken into consideration.

By the way, everyone who hasn't still has to turn in their essays.

Note this

As you may have noticed, even I don't have my essay up yet. I took an extension too. So, I expect all the essays to be in within the next week or two. I just need one thing from all of you.

If you read this post, leave a comment saying about when your essay will be up, or that your essay is already up.

This is just so that I get a feel for who I have to email about their essays.

Thanks

The implications of changing attitudes toward muggle fashions

The increased diversification and modernisation of fashion amongst the younger generations of the wizarding world indicates increased muggle influence and acceptance. This essay will first examine the attitudes of older wizards when it comes to modern muggle fashions which will be followed by an examination of the attitudes that younger wizards hold towards modern muggle clothing.

AFK: Aug 6th- Aug 20th

I'm going to be out of town from Aug. 6th 'til Aug. 20th. Taking a laptop with me and I might have internet access next week (til the 13th) but not going to count on it.

So, who wants the ever so fun job of watching the comm? Really easy, not sure that you'll have to do anything honestly.

This is also your reminder that essays are due Sept. 1st, a little under a month away.

claims

Ok, so can anyone who hasn't claimed a topic claim one, so we can wrap the claims?

linky

I hate to put a limit, I just want to post the list of who's writing what for whom, and I need to know what I'm writing. I'm taking the unclaimed prompt unless it's mine. Then you all get to come up with one for me. So, yeah, you've got till Tuesday to claim.

So finish claiming posts, k? If there is a problem, get in touch with me.

redcoast asked, so newish rule. You can supply as many prompts as you want if you claim an equal amount of prompts. So you can ask for 3 essays if you write 3 essays. Just be reasonable on the amount of claims.

In other news, general consensus was that you can post if you need any help with your essay.

essay help?

Cause I'm not crazy about letting this community be completely dead for a month and a half, would everyone be ok with using this community to ask for help on your essays for the community if you're stuck?

I'll open up comm posting, and yeah, you can post if you need a detail or help with a paragraph or thesis or recruit for betas or whatever.

So yay or nay on using this community to get essay help?

Claims Post

We should get this underway, right?

Essays are due September 1st. Format can be found here: link

So post prompts and claim them in the comments.

Want an essay on Cho? Post a comment saying Cho. Want one that has rubber bands somewhere in it? Post that. Try not to be too specific, but otherwise go wild. Also note what you absolutely don't want: No pro-R/Hr stuff, nothing NC-17, etc.

You see something that you want to write? Claim that prompt by posting a comment in response.

One essay written and received per person, but you don't have to write for the same person who is writing for you.

Any questions? Ask!

Content/Formatting

Going by the poll results, the essays will be dealing with the Harry Potter books. You can write about anything you want: characterization, tone, mechanics of the verse, symbolism, structure, plot, any aspect of the books is fair game.

Format:
1. Standard academic essay- you have to have an introduction, thesis, supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion.
2. Citation- would MLA work for everyone? (And yeah, cite all sources, including HP books.)
3. Introduction then the rest of the essay under a cut, or thesis and the rest of the essay under a cut if the intro is a page and a half.

Is the above all right for everyone? Questions/Comments?

Intro/questions

This is a Harry Potter essay exchange community. It works the same as a fic or art exchange, you write something for someone else, they write something for you.

So informal poll cause this isn't a paid journal:

Do you want to write:
1) HP essays
2) meta concerning the fandom
3) receivers/writers choice?

How should the write-recieve work?
1) pairs
2) round robin

Do you want to write in:
1) pairs
2) individually
3) writers choice

In terms of prompts:
1) Screened comments where you put what you want to write/receive, and I dole out the prompts
2) You all post prompts and claim prompts in the comments

And anyone want to help mod? And any other suggestions? Oh, and what would be a good due date for the essays?
